Social Services - Penelakut

We are almost 4 months into our fiscal year for our program, we are completing our finances for the year end audit with Peter Brynjolson our Auditor for the band.  Everything is coming into place for now, our biggest demand is for special needs as usual for furniture.  We get our funds for special needs in the area of 2-3 thousand dollars, it does not come in at once.  So we must spend according to the budget, last year we had a large demand for this small budgeted program.  We actually went to a deficit of over $5,000.00 but since we had a surplus in our Social Services Administration budget we were able to cover the deficit.

Of we are still preparing for our 3 year audit by Indian Affairs, they come in to examine all our SA files to insure that we are spending the dollars according to the policy and budget.  They basically go through every department within our Social Services program to examine all the files, they will finalize their audit in October this fall.

We are still facing some problems with Hydro bills from some clients, it is important to bring them in to Karen or myself as soon as they come in the mail.  According to policy I should not pay any bills over two months. Its hard to believe some of the bills are over 6 month old before they come into me and they are really large amounts.  Many of them are being requested to pay security deposits of over 400.00 before they will continue service, otherwise they will cut your service.  Unfortunately I am unable to pay for these security deposits they must be paid by yourselves directly.  Our SA budget does not get any dollars for this, so we can pay for it but must deduct it from you monthly.
